I spotted this on FleebUK and wondered if it's in walking distance of the mods:

If it really is Made (not Crafted) in Japan, has a "C" (1985) serial and indeed an ash (not basswood) body, then this is a non-export MIJ Tele Custom and could even have US (staggered poles) pups. Well worth the BIN, and a staggering bargain at the opening AUS$750. One of the coolest-looking guitars, I'd love to pose while listening to Editors or Snow Patrol but I'm the other side of the world and a pants guitarist. |

I know someone that has an original US 1978 version, in the same colour, great instrument and i think he's going to sell his, i offered to put it up on my ebay account for him, ive seen the same guitar go last week for £1,495 which i thought was a really good price.
The price isn't that good Bass, Sean has a Jap copy, MIJ but not as early as that one and in Sunburst, he got his for around £450, local pick up.
But those early Jap copies are some of the best, I have a MIJ Custom 62 Tele reissue with the double binding, made in 84' and a MIJ Strat 62 reissue mid 80's with Texas specials, both in sunburst, both brilliant guitars, i'll have to post up some pictures of them. |

I know that MIJ Fenders can still be had for low money if you're patient, but the AUS$750 opener struck me as pretty good from a dealer. Particularly if the pups are US-made, as they often were with the 80s reissues.
I'm taking into account that current CIJ guitars retail around £350 now (with inferior basswood bodies and locally-sourced pups) and, IIRC, the Japanese reissues retailled at the time around £250 new. Quite a bit more than £350 is worth these days but, even then, I thought they represented very good value. 80s Japanese Fenders are great sleepers as long as you do a bit of research. It just happens that the '72 is a bit of an icon for me.
