If you own one I hope you have more luck than I have had. I haven't been able to get much information on mine. The head stock reads "Dorado," pearl enlay lettering, blond top, reddish brown sides and back, silver turn keys, and it is a "Dorado by Gretsch" made in Japan, Model # 5989. I was told by a blind appraiser at Gruen's in Nashville in 1992 that it was worth $2,000. I have been searching for an apraisal since but nobody can tell me anything. The body size, however, is not jumbo as you said the one you're asking about. It's about average.

It would be a blast for someone to recognize my guitar. I would love to know its origin.

Hey Cammac,

I don't know anything about the value of your instrument but I do have a couple of 1970's Dorado catalogs posted on my website VintAxe.com if you want to research your instrument. I think I've got a couple more Dorado catalogs in storage that I haven't posted yet if the stuff I have up isn't helpful. Lemme know if you want to pursue it. SB

SB

I tried to access the guitar catalogs but it asks for a password. I guess I'll miss out. Can't afford to pay for any more subscriptions on the computer. Single parent, crummy job. But, thanks for the offer.

No Problem. I hope you can get to a place so that 5 bucks isn't a big deal soon. SB
